Umbrella Logo

Umbrella enables disabled children and young adults to realise their full potential.

  • We empower parents and carers, supporting them in their care of their disabled child or young adult.
  • We provide exciting, stimulating activities for children and young adults which encourage the development of skills, whilst having fun; giving disabled children and young adults opportunities that non-disabled children take for granted

Umbrella supports any family with a disabled child or young adult aged 5 to 30. Umbrella is able to support a child or young adult no matter what their disability as our services are person centred to meet individual needs.

Friends of The Baby Unit was initially launched to help a family come to terms with the loss of their premature baby. Founder, Kate Repton launched Friends of the Baby Unit also known as FOBU or “Friends” after tragically losing her daughter Lucy. Its purpose was to raise funds to buy equipment for use in the intensive care of babies in the Neonatal Unit in Derby.
The organisation quickly gained momentum with many ‘friends’ wanting to contribute “Over the years we have been joined by others who have devoted their time and efforts in raising funds for the unit.”
Since its launch in 1976 the charity has raised over £2.7 million which has helped buy life-saving equipment for the Royal Derby NICU with the unit catering for over 400 babies each year.
